Sugar: An Outdated Kind of Diet

I love the fact that there were people who believed this ad and ate candy before a meal. Now it doesn't matter if that ad is true or not, people are eating all kinds of candy before, during and after meals.

In looking at some of these vintage ads, my dad recollected a kid named Donald in his 2nd grade class who used to bring a lunch box to school filled only with candy. My dad remembers feeling envious of all that sugar, and of all the friends Donald made by trading candy with other 2nd graders. I wonder what Donald is doing now and how his health is. I wonder how long he continued bringing candy for lunch. I wonder if his mother packed his lunch with candy because ads like the one above were convincing.

I'm so glad I found your blog. I am trying to cut processed sugar (and added sugar at all) out of my diet. I'm actually doing really well, considering I went to school for pastry and work at a bakery. I want a career in this field, and I won't leave it out of my life for good, but I like to find out about alternatives as well as be reminded why I've done this for myself...

Since cutting out sugar as a vegan (its been exactly a week now,) I have discovered the need to rely on nearly 100% homemade foods. I think this is a great lesson on myself and how addicting and damaging sugar is. I am losing about a half pound a day and feel better than I have in a long time.

This is even harder, since for my psoriasis expirement I am also avoiding nightshade foods (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, goji), and to see if my health improves further, I am avoiding non organic corn and soy.

Your blog is a good read. I'm fav-ing it.

Wow! Now that's a real challenge-cutting out refined sugar AND working at a bakery? I couldn't think of a more difficult situation! However, maybe using the right-in-front-of-your-face tactic makes it easier?!

I keep goodies all over the house for my husband for this very reason. I might as well be exposed to tempting sweets all of the time so when I am somewhere else, I won't be blind-sided by a tempting sweet treat. I'll be used to seeing them.

If weight loss is one of your goals, then that's great that you are achieving it by cutting out sugar, and that you feel so good.

I think you will have a lot of fun experimenting with baking/cooking using natural sweeteners. I've eaten some AMAZING sweets this year, all naturally sweetened, and a lot of them homemade.

Keep up the good work and the discipline! Mind over matter, right?
